sold TZA @ 14.05 ... as a short term trader I do not like to fight the post-noon highs which frequently emerge ...

fwiw ... TNA (TZA opposite) took out its 3 day low today (which is when I sold) ... so I will probably re-load on TZA again ...

technically I think that volatility increases are the "tell" today ... despite end of month assumptions about institutions holding up prices ...

Hi...I believe your risk is "can IYR break up and through all that junk"..if it does SRS will suffer...here is the IYR with the junk...also look at the PNF chart i sent if it breaks marginally lower it will take out a double bottom..the 15 min. is showing a nice green candle butttt...what is it that you see that makes you so nervous???

No worries, my friend. I was not upset and I do appreciate your charts. One thing that was strange though was the strength of IYR at the eod. I also watch SPG which is a large component of IYR and it too got a lift which was probably what caused IYR to lift in spite of the market's fall. Still, SPG did not go above the descending trendline from mid September.

Quick question for everyone. I trade in a Roth IRA, so if I trade I have to wait for T+3. Because of my line of work I am limited to ETFs. I have been holding on to TWM for a week now. Wanted to sell out Wednesday at close to take advantage of a bounce, but decided against it because of settlement, didn't figure I could get back in a good time. How does everyone handle trading in retirement accounts?

I have a TOS IRA account, and T+3 does not apply. However, I have to wait one day for trades to settle, stocks and ETFs and options, cannot trade with same day funds.

Sorry, let me be a little more clear. Settlement for ETFs is three days. If you are trading (and close out) unsettled funds, you will be in violation of treasury regulation Z (I believe that is the correct one). Simply means there is no margin. So if I sold TWM on Wednesday, it would settle on Monday. I could take those funds and get back into TWM, but I am stuck there until the original trade from Wednesday settles. Otherwise I get nasty letters from Schwab and strike 1. Three strikes and you are limited to cash trades for 90 days.

Let's say I only had $5,000 in my IRA in TOS, and used it all to purchase your TWM today. I can sell it today as well, but I won't be able to trade for today, however it would be OK to use that money Monday.

On the other hand, if I had 8,000 in my IRA, I would still be able to use the remaining 3,000 for trades today. However, my daytrade for today on TWM would be counted towards my 3 allowed daytrades per week in my TOS account, if the total account value is less than 25K. No restrictions for daytrades if above that limit.

Sorry to hear. For longer term play, you should be able to pick it up cheaper later today. On ST chart I am showing decent price volume support at 193.66 (stop 193.46). Below that 191.91 (stop 191.45). RSI on the 30 min looks like its ready to spring it back up to 197-198 zone in the next few days end/beginning month seasonality. fwiw. caveat emptor.

How does one copy and paste a chart in Ameritrade/TOS? I have asked support and they have no answer for me. I believe that I can do it but it shows all of my personal information along with it like my account number, etc. Like the ones that you routinely use here.

As others have said, download Jing and use Jing.
Also just fyi, on the tos trade page you can go to the little blue triangle just below your account number and click that. A drop down appears, click "Privacy". Then go to the upper LH corner and click the little blue triangle and all your personal info is hidden. You need to do this because your account number and account $$$$$$ wil still show up all along the top if you don't do this. If you want it all back do it all in the reverse order.
Also when you use Jing you can use the arrow drawing tool and cover up what is left of your account number if you want.
I have used the free Jing for a long time with no issues to my computer.
Also just fyi there is a little button that looks like a printer on the top RH corner of the chart pages where you can take a picture of the chart and store it in your computer if you want. Such as to make a library of your signals or trades that worked, etc.

I'm very sorry to hear that you've had a crisis to deal with, Al. I hope the situation resolves in short order.

The PMs are notoriously erratic and I have never liked trading them, but I do when the charts and climate support it. I suspect that the recent selling is a final shake-out before a more sustainable climb higher, but in general, I tend to tighten stops considerably on the group after they've had a big move, as the nearly guaranteed counter-move/consolidation phase can be particularly aggressive with these guys.

Hey, EVB. I shortened up a fair amount yesterday (more by selling longs, though I added puts on PRU and SPY). I covered a little bit of those shorts so far (too early, as it happened) and am just letting the rest ride for now.

Nice tape forecast by moo, btw. Yesterday at the close he had 1052 on the /ES as make-it-or-break-it support for today ... it held for a while (where I covered some of those puts) and when it went, the elevator picked up steam.

Some random musings..

I identified my problem with SPY trading this week finally - why did it take me 2 years? lol...trading is now actually really goddam enjoyable for once...epiphany or just lucky and i'll be back to crying over spilt milk next week? lol

Interesting action today, nice double gap fill, standing aside abit more, not convinced today or monday will be 'it' but will see. Also on the bearish take, looking at rimm, seems hellbent on the gap fill lower? Seems AAPL is eating RIMM for lunch in terms of phone share so guessing people are bailing for now...
BIDU 345 gap which i so wanted filling on earnings..ran to 400 of all things bashed it head on the ceiling now dropped $20 already...

Waiting for the next move but it is looking highly probably the SPYs are at leat going to gun for 100 again as a test maybe lower, plenty of gaps below to fill which have been open for a while.....fed injection yesterday didn't last long at all and now there is no more support in the immediate future..

Fed comments on changing their 'dollar statements' apparently next week - speculation on the '% rates held low for very long time' - 'very long time' allegedly to be removed.

Was spot on with my GS short at 185, shame i got stopped out at 187 and now its 170...life's a bitch lol. Need to be a little more loose.

Then again, EUR running into support again so just going to see how it plays out..would not be surprised to see 950 or 1120 ( see i cover all bases lol ) in 2-3 weeks given the way the market is trading.. Lot sof interesting OI at these levels, suspect the 110s and higher were sold but all to be revealed...

Highly choppy action is indicative of a short-term top though?

Long ENCO again on the 3.9 million share insider purchase where it is now and still in LWLG.OB because I think this is a long term big, big winner.
