This allowed me to take a good chunk of money off the table while extending the position. Essentially I am now in this trade for .65 per contract. Since I do believe that interest rates have nowhere to go but up, this lets me sit in the position longer. If TBT pulls back, say $2 to 45, which is about all I think it will do if that, these lower delta options will only lose less than $1 while the higher delta ones would lose about $1.60, depending on when this happens.

Thanks Morisse!

Re: Trades for 10/15/09

I started my short position today with TZA. I do not see us exceeding today's high of 1096.56 by more than 25 points.

We have arrived very close to my road map post 1120 of $SPX 50% fib. I only recently started experimenting with trailing stops. I've always trailed my stop up manually using prior swing lows as a stop. This works well in swing trades but now that I am starting to do more day trades I find I give too much back and get stopped out anyway. I guess there isn't a 1 size fits all solution to this.

Re: Trades for 10/15/09

I think we just need to admit there are many things we cannot predict. How could there possibly be a solution to this issue? These are at best odds we are playing. I think the only approach is cost-benefit analysis: what is the risk of stopping out versus the risk of giving too much back? I like moo's technique of using a fixed stop early on, then a trailing stop if the trade goes in the right direction a bit -- not because it's perfect but because it changes along with my changing costs-benefits. Early in the trade my biggest risk is completely screwing up the direction, and late in the trade I can risk some profits in order to try to follow a trend that has established itself. There's more, of course, but that's one basic sort of answer....

Re: Trades for 10/15/09

I'm still bullish, just expect some profit taking after this Google run-up.

Re: Trades for 10/15/09

is this a short term move or has your outlook changed?

Re: Trades for 10/15/09

I need to run, Everyone-- have to get out the door but will check in later on.
